After another season of fantastic progress and with the upcoming world cup about to get underway, Gregg Davison spoke to HUFC Women's Team Manager, Jonathan Gibbon-Hayes about managing the team.
Here is what he had to say....
I have been manager for just over 3 months and its flown over like a whirlwind, it was tough coming in so late and we have really had to win over the dressing room.
When we first came in the girls were honest and a number were thinking of leaving but thankfully we have helped repair the dressing room and it’s an amazing place to be.
Everybody wants to be at training and competition for places is fantastic. Technically this group are very good and it was nice to finish our games unbeaten in the league, this gives us enormous confidence for next season.
We are going to be the favourites and that brings its own pressures but I will be keeping everyone’s feet on the ground and just taking it day by day. We are due back for open training on the 18th June and hopefully have a few players come and try to be part of the club, pre-season looks exciting with games against Leeds, Newcastle and Sunderland to name just a few.
We already have 3 or 4 coming in with National League experience so that bodes well and will complement the squad well.
Playing at Victoria Park was a career highlight for me and being manager of Hartlepool United was special, no doubt you have seen my interview on the Pools website.
The support we have from the club is incredible, Craig Hignett is a great guy and was a massive help to myself and Andy (assistant), we were lucky to spend a morning watching first team and we have plans to go back in pre-season. Mark Simpson is a genius and the passion he shows for the club and for us the female game is nothing short of incredible.
I am a lucky guy to manage this club and excited for 19/20 season and beyond. Thanks to the Southeast Poolies for all the support.
