Caitlin Bates

Within a short few years, the Hartlepool United Women's team have gone from strength, making year on year progress. Not only is the game increasing in popularity, but its fair to say that the our own team is gaining support. Regular updates are treated with excitement amongst Poolies and wins with celebration. They finished the season with a big win in front of home supporters at the Super 6 Stadium, with a great crowd to roar them on.

There is no doubt that they are now part of the fabric of our fantastic club and we all look forward to what the coming years will bring for them.

Caitlin Bates kindly offered to talk to us and let us in to a few little secrets! Here is what she had to say....

Hi my name is Caitlin Bates and this is what I have to say about my team mates...

What are pre match routines?

We get to the ground with plenty of time to chill and enjoy the music blasting through the speakers. Usually jonny and Andy come in before we get changed for the warm up with a few words then we come back in 10 mins before kick off to go through tactics etc.

Dressing room characters and banter?

I would say Lottie always has the banter going in the changing rooms haha. Theres a few in the squad jussy, rowbo, lucy who are big characters and bazzy is usually the target because of how much she bites hahaha!

Whos the biggest show off in the team?

Theres no one who id say shows off but if I had to pick someone I'd say Lucy just because of her banter haha if she gets past you in training or warm ups or megs you you will never hear the end of it haha.

Who has the worst dress sense?

Got to be Jo Hurrell! She wore the worst shirt for presentation night and a couple years ago she was even dancing around in nothing but a green mankini hahaha.

Playing on the hallowed turf?

It was unbelievable. I have been a pools season ticket holder since I was 6 months old so to play on the vic in front of such a big crowd was an amazing opportunity. The day was just like being a professional footballer from the changing rooms to playing on the pitch, its just an unreal feeling personally and I always get a real buzz to be able to play there.

Expectations for next season?

We have got to win the league. We want to push for promotion and get as far as we can in the FA cup, county cup and also the league cup. The squad is just getting stronger and stronger and I know its going to be a very successful season for us. A lot of hard work has already gone in to it prior to pre season so I am looking forward to getting started.

How was presentation night?

Its always a great night and good quality team bonding. We dont get to go out as a full squad very often so its always good to have everyone together. Jussy had a clean sweep with the awards but it was a no brainer, she has had yet again another quality season.

Thoughts in Fifa womens world cup?

I am really looking forward to watching it and getting behind the Lionesses. The womens game is getting bigger and bigger every year so it will be great to see the publicity and backing it will get and I'm hoping the England women can go all the way and win it.
